the description: priceless
"For auction is a rare piece of original Cerebus artwork by Dave Sim. This piece is a pencil drawing by Dave Sim of two panels published in Cerebus 134. The panels depict Jaka speaking. The drawing is on standard white 8.5"x11" paper stock, and is housed in a grey wooden 9"x12" frame. The paper has yellowed slightly with age, but the drawing is in great condition and is perfectly suited for display. Signed "Dave Sim" in the lower left, with "Jaka Cerebus 134" in the lower right. Acquired by me in 1992, this is a rare original example of Sim's work from his graphic novel "Church & State," which many consider to the be his finest. Auction includes the frame. Email with questions and happy bidding."

hello alchemist, lofrat here... I understand you believe that price too high or description uncertain?
i would appreciate some expertise. in fact, looking at previous prices, it seems to me a little bit high...
Hey lofrat! Naturally, I was being a pain in the ass about it. I think there is nothing wrong with the drawing, it is the description that seems (somehow) a little inflated.
It appears to be one of the many (many), I say, many preliminary drawings that Dave did while composing a page. These are not what I would call "rare," in general, and certainly not that there are 5 batches of these later prelims now posted at http://www.cerebusart.com that will be coming up for sale later this year.
So... sentence #1's "a rare piece of original Cerebus artwork" struck me as a little hyperbolic.
I don't quite get sentence #2 "a pencil drawing by Dave Sim of two panels published" well, ok, not really... these are not published anything
sentence #3: jaka speaking ... or balancing an egg on her head (sorry, being a brat again... I have not pulled the book to see if these did end up being where word balloons here)
and later on, this business of implying something about the publication of this work "...rare original example of Sim's work from his graphic novel "Church & State," Can you count this a 'original work from C&S' OK, I suppose, but if you compare the descriptions used by Dave and/or Ger when the prelims were sold, there was a significantly clearer accounting of what it is a person was buying.
The price? Beats me. Value and worth are elusive... moving targets. You want a couple of cool Jaka prelims tagged to C&S? Seems a reasonable price to me. A little higher than all the Latter Days onion-skins, but also appear to be a much more refined set of pencils.
Cheers.
Many thanks, Alchemist. In fact, you're right, the "published" part is plainly off target... thanks for your comments.
I take this occasion to let you know that your collection of original Cerebus Art is stunning - both for quality and quantity.
Bye and thanks!
Thanks, Lorenzo! Nice to hear from you.
Church & State? I thought the text "Cerebus 134" indicated that it came from issue #134 in the phonebook Jaka's Story?
Oh, good catch.
Someone drag out the books and see where these two drawings show up.

Some are available for sale now, pre-auction even.
